Pure Salmon participated to the launch of the world’s first global framework to finance a Sustainable Blue Economy, which took place at the Our Ocean conference on the 29th of October 2018. This event set in stone the Sustainable Blue Economy Finance Principles (SBEFP), with which Pure Salmon and 8F Asset Management are proud to be leading by example by becoming Founding Signatories and Supporting Organisations.
Developed by the WWF, the EU Commission, the EIB and the World Resources Institute, the SBEFP are now set to become the gold standard to invest in ‘Blue Economy’ in a sustainable manner. The SBEFP are designed to be compliant with IFC Performance Standards and EIB Environmental and Social Principles and Standards. The SBEFP are also designed to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular SDG 14 ‘Life Below Water’ which targets protection of natural resources and marine ecosystems, no sea pollution or damage to the oceans, and non-depletion of wild fish supplies. We are convinced that the application of these principles will show how profitability can go hand-in-hand with environmental and social stewardship, and how UN Sustainable Development Goal 14 to ‘conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources’ can be achieved, in practice and at scale.
The SBEFP will also soon become part of a new sustainable blue economy finance initiative under the auspices of the UN Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI).
